Study the Bible with us!

We study the Bible with each other every week and spur one another on with stories of life with Jesus. The Bible is the foundation of truth and practice. It is a guide to life that is relevant all the time, every day. We trust God to preserve the text as Christians have faithfully handed it down from generation to generation, and we believe that God works through translators today to present a variety of Bible translations that are suitable for many purposes: some for in-depth study, others for easy understanding. While we at Vineyard Trailblazers Church each have our own preferred translations, we are careful to advise each other on the strengths and weaknesses of each.

The Bible in Community

The Bible says that, “the church of the living God [is] the pillar and support of the truth” (1 Timothy 3:15, NASB). Proper Bible interpretation (hermeneutics) happens through the Holy Spirit inside the church community, not by oneself: we don’t get to decide for ourselves what the Bible means. For this reason, we discourage the use of Bible translations and paraphrases composed by lone authors, no matter how insightful or educated they may be. We don’t want to know what I think, you think, or he or she thinks: we want to know what God thinks!

The Bible is for Today!

The Bible is a very old book. It was written to people far away in different cultures in different languages. But God wrote it for us, too! This is why we encourage the use of modern Bible translations. For example, the Authorized King James Version is mandated by some churches, but we recognize that it was written centuries ago for people who spoke differently than we do today. It is better for most readers to use a more recent translation with words that suit the way we speak, the New American Standard Bible or the English Standard Version, and others. Even further, for those whose first language is not English, we eagerly encourage the use of Bible translations in their home languages. We want everybody to both read and understand the Bible!

About Vineyard Trailblazers

We Are a Church Who Believes the Bible is the Foundation of Truth

We at Vineyard Trailblazers Church of State College believe that the Bible is the one and only authoritative, inerrant, infallible foundation of truth breathed by God Himself, the Eternal Creator and Sustainer of All Things. God led human authors to write the words He desired, resulting in a perfect literary work which communicates exactly what God intended. The Bible is inerrant, meaning that the original manuscripts contained no errors. The Bible is infallible, meaning that everything in the original manuscripts of the Bible is 100% accurate and true, without fail. The Bible is the authority: it is supreme in truth, it is the rule of life and faith, and if ever anything disagrees with the Bible, the Bible is correct and that thing is incorrect. The translations we have of the Bible are based on an extremely extensive and accurate textual history and thus can be trusted to be accurate; consulting a variety of high-quality translations is wise.

We Are a Church Who Makes Jesus First

We at Vineyard Trailblazers Church of State College follow our God and Savior Jesus Christ, the Leader of our faith who leads us into vibrant life that makes everything else pale in comparison. Jesus is amazing, and we want everyone to know Him!

We Are a Church Where the Holy Spirit Is Welcome

We at Vineyard Trailblazers Church of State College have experienced the wonder and power of the Holy Spirit of Jesus in our everyday lives. We know, because we have seen it, that He is active today in all kinds of miraculous ministry and supernatural activity. With Him, we can be naturally supernatural. We seek His advice, and we follow His lead, and sometimes He upends our plans in favor of something so much better. In all things, the Holy Spirit points to Jesus Christ our Lord.

We Are a Church Who Looks to the Now and Coming Kingdom

We at Vineyard Trailblazers Church of State College have devoted ourselves to the kingdom of Jesus Christ. His kingdom is now here: we experience it every day. The Christian life isn’t just about getting into heaven and escaping hell. It is about experiencing a vibrant life with God right now in this life. Jesus’ kingdom is now here, but it is not yet fully here. There is still brokenness and sin all around us. We aren’t made perfect yet, not fully wise, nor fully loving. Often our prayers for miracles are answered, but often they are not: the kingdom is already, but not yet. One day Jesus will come again to reign physically as King, and then the kingdom will be here in full.

We Are a Church that is Not about Sunday

We at Vineyard Trailblazers Church of State College have committed our lives to Jesus Christ. That means we follow Him every day, not just Sunday morning. We gather on Sundays to worship God. Sunday church is for God, our opportunity to meet with Him together, and it is vital for a healthy Christian life. But being Christian is a whole-life pursuit. Our allegiance is to King Jesus, always. So, while we hope that lots of people will join us on Sunday for “church,” our purpose is really to see God’s kingdom come everywhere else throughout the week.

We Are a Church for People of All Types and Backgrounds

We at Vineyard Trailblazers Church of State College is a church for people of all ages, all ethnicities, all experiences, all religious histories, all sinful pasts: whatever you have experienced, wherever you have come from, whatever you have done, you are welcome here where we unite in the forgiveness and freedom given to us by Jesus Christ. In Him, we are made new!

We Are a Church Who Believe You Can Hear God’s Voice Yourself

We at Vineyard Trailblazers Church of State College have heard God’s voice. We hear Him all the time, every day, and every time we gather together, we practice learning to hear Him. You can learn to hear God, too, and we will help you. We don’t promise that we are always right: God is a perfect communicator, but we are awful listeners; but just as growing physically strong requires starting small and diligently exercising to grow, so becoming mature in Jesus, including accurately discerning His voice, takes time and practice.

We Are a Church Who Experiences Healing

We at Vineyard Trailblazers Church of State College have found the answer: Jesus. Through Jesus, we can experience physical healing, and we regular see people physically healed through prayer. But healing is also spiritual, emotional, psychological, relational, and more. In fact, usually physical healing is the least important thing a person needs. Rather than sitting in problems or dwelling in sin, we believe that you can move past them into healing through Jesus. In Jesus, we have hope.

We Are a Church Who Tells Others About Jesus

We at Vineyard Trailblazers Church of State College want everyone to know about what Jesus has done. It our goal to be people who are natural evangelists, taking Jesus with us everywhere we go, and being open about it. We believe in on-the-spot street evangelism, relational evangelism, and in-church evangelism: everywhere, everyday evangelism.

We Are a Church Who Makes Missions a Priority

We at Vineyard Trailblazers Church of State College have a mission to spread the gospel, the good news, of Jesus Christ to the farthest reaches of heaven and earth. Missions is foreign and domestic, distant and local, regular people filled with the Holy Spirit telling the world about Jesus.

We Are a Church Who Believes You Can Be a Church Planter, Too!

We at Vineyard Trailblazers Church of State College want to send you out to plant and renew churches all over the world. You have a unique mix of gifts, talents, skills, and abilities that God has placed in you, and He has planned good things for you to do. He designed you for this, to go out in community with likeminded fellow believers to bring Jesus to the nations.

We Are a Church Who Loves Worship and Prayer

We at Vineyard Trailblazers Church of State College want God to be front and center. We love worshipping Him through music, and we love creativity and art. God Himself is a Creator, after all. Prayer, talking with God, is closely linked with worship, and our vibrant experience of Him opens us up to incredible prayer times together and the opportunity to go out and pray with people who don’t know Jesus, giving them the chance to experience Him for themselves for the very first time.

We Are a Church Where Children and Adults Worship Together

We at Vineyard Trailblazers Church of State College believe that the church is the community of all believers, big and small. We do special things for young kids to help them pay attention at church, but we believe that children learn by seeing their elders (older youth, parents, families, and adults generally) worship and pray and talk about Jesus. Our kids join us in worship. We teach them how to pray for others. We show them that grownups love Jesus. We demonstrate how to love each other. We include them in everything we can, because that is how we all grow!

We Are a Church Who Is Not Afraid of Difficult Topics

We at Vineyard Trailblazers Church of State College believe that God is God, and that means He can handle our questions. The Bible is our foundation of truth, and we apply it to difficult topics, and controversial ones, too. Sometimes the Bible says things we don’t like: sacrificing our own ideas is painful, but that is part of following Jesus who sacrificed His whole life to save us. We don’t care if a topic is offensive or political or makes people angry: God’s opinion is the right one, and so we want to find out what that is, and submit to it.

We Are a Church Who Pursues Unity with All Churches

We at Vineyard Trailblazers Church of State College pursue unity with all churches, every group of believers who follows Jesus Christ, seeks to be like Him, recognizes the Bible’s authority as the sole foundation of truth, and is willing to submit to Jesus as King. To a large extent, various churches and denominations are simply expressions of various spiritual personalities: together we can represent Jesus better. We want to be unified in theology (truth), purpose, and overall mission (the Great Commission) while retaining the distinct roles and personalities that God has designed for each of us. We want to work together and lift each other up, to love one another just like Jesus wants us to do.

About the Vineyard Movement

“The Vineyard is a God-initiated global movement of churches . . . with the Kingdom of God as its theological center. The Bible is our rule of faith and practice. Our desire is to know the Bible, do what it says, and experience the way of living it describes.
“We embrace a full range of kingdom practices from proclaiming the Good News of Jesus, to healing and deliverance, to ministry with the poor. Vineyard churches embody a praxis that includes intimate worship, actively equipping ordinary people for ministry, responding to the initiative and leading of the Holy Spirit, and joining God’s mission in the world.” 1
